Bringing the world of transformation (read transformation blog here) to the word ‘leadership’, from these 55 “Medicine Wheel” cards lent to me by my lovely neighbour Cassandra, I know that the only thing stoping anyone from being a leader is themselves. After starting my personal development back in October 1993, I learned and agree that 2 of the common results of the Landmark Forum is getting a breakthrough in “confidence” and a breakthrough is “discovering what is important to you.” Run by Landmark Worldwide, and for the next 10 years, I participated in many of their leadership programs:
- Self Expression and Leadership Program
- Introduction Leaders Program
- Team Management and Leadership Program
It was the latter course that truly opened up a whole new world of leadership for me, as the “one year course” was an inquiry into leadership where we took on ‘leading from behind’ or ‘leading’ when you weren’t there.
At the time, and having already accomplished 3 fire breathing shows for Channel 10 News, Australia on the 15th September 1995,1996 and 1997; I trained participants in the course to learn fire breathing and invited them to stand for World Peace and take the skill back home and perform a show for the news media. I trained them to train others. As a consequence, I accomplished fire shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland as a result; and I wasn’t there for any of them,(see video Ceasefire Project).
Leadership by Children
Last year, 3 children demonstrated leadership in my life.
One girl, (11) was hopping along with me and, knowing my stand for World Peace, suggested we play: “Sweet and Sour!”
“What’s that?” I asked.
“Well you wave at cars driving by and if they wave back, they are sweet and if they don’t they are sour! “Much laughter as the game did confront poor drivers to react or ignore, depending on their mood.
Another child Reuben (10) asked me why I liked World Peace so much and after my reply; suggested we could play a tag game called World Peace by 2020, Pass It On! You’re It!
I invited him to play it on his school playground, and, after many queries about it, over a week or so, he finally and sheepishly smiled and confessed he had ‘grown out of’ tag games! ( I later invited some 8 year olds to play it and they said YES!)
Lastly Lucy (12) turned up to the World Peace ceremony at the main beach of Byron Bay, Australia on Sunday 15 September 2019 with 10 of her girlfriends celebrating her birthday. After we sung happy birthday and cheered her 3 times she shouted “World Peace Take Off” and so the World Peace Take Off Parties for this year 2020 were born!
Perhaps it is the listening I provided for each of these children and I declare it was after I heard this prose; that I truly got inspired about the difference I can make to our future generations.
Notes On An Unhurried Journey
When we adults think of children, there is a simple truth which we ignore; childhood is not preparation for life; childhood is life. A child isn’t getting ready to live; a child is living. The child is constantly confronted with the nagging question: “What are you going to be?” Courageous would be the youngster who, looking the adult squarely in the face, would say, “I’m not going to be anything; I already am.”
We adults would be shocked by such an insolent remark, for we have forgotten, if indeed we ever knew, that a child is an active participating and contributing member of society from the time he is born. Childhood isn’t a time when he is moulded into a human who will then live life; he is a human who is living life. No child will miss the zest and joy of living unless these are denied him by adults who have convinced themselves that childhood is a period of preparation.
How much heartache we would save ourselves if we would recognize the child as a partner with adults in the process of living, rather than always viewing him as an apprentice. How much we would teach each other… adults with the experience and children with the freshness. How full both our lives could be.
A little child may not lead us, but at least we ought to discuss the trip with him; for, after all, life is his and her journey too.

I have learned that the key to leadership is to demonstrate enrolment in “who you are” and “your commitments” at the time. Bold Leadership is available for anyone! Pass It On!
Peace and Health to you and your families,
New skills, new possibilities, new views on life, new ways of being and so much more have all grown and expanded, with his ongoing participation. There are remarkable and inspiring courses for our young people (8-12-year-olds) and teenagers (13-18) which underline Charles’s passion for sharing this work with younger generations.
Future based training; breakthrough thinking and digital disruption are all embraced in his blogs, with his recommended courses pointing to many sources; including Landmark Worldwide and online, through Six Figure Mentors.
Charles thanks you for taking the time to read his blogs and, as taught to him by a 10-year-old boy called Reuben:
